The Hay Barn

The Browns chose a meadow and cleared trees to make way for hay. The hay would eventually be stored in the hay barn. Peak in here today and you will probably find that we use it for the same purpose!

Here are some fun memories from Byron Dickinson, George and Lois’s grandson,

“Life for the Brown family and Lois in particular, was hard work. For many years, there were no automobiles (maybe a blessing), no electricity, no nearby grocery store, and very little cash money. Most of the family clothing was handmade; orchards and gardens were necessities, not hobbies…. Summers were spent harvesting and canning food to get the family through the winter. Nearly all kitchens included a huge wood stove complete with oven and hot water tank. Laundry involved boiling the clothes and hanging them to dry on wire lines.”

The hay barn is barely visible in the back right behind the car. The car is parked in front of what we call our “Garden shed”.
